Despite ongoing speculation, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White’s breakup reportedly wasn’t due to infidelity. A source claimed to Us Weekly that the engagement wasn’t brought on by infidelity, insisting both parties were loyal throughout their relationship.
“There was no cheating at all during the course of their five-and-a-half-year relationship,” an insider close to the former couple told the outlet. They added that Dobrev, 36, and White, 39, were fully committed before their breakup.
“They were very loyal to each other,” the insider tells Us. “Any online speculation that suggests otherwise is ridiculous.”
© Ivan ApfelShortly after news of their split broke on September 11, the Vampire Diaries alum got fans talking with a resurfaced TikTok video. Because of the timing, some fans speculated that the video, which was initially posted on September 5, hinted at issues in their relationship.
In the clip, Dobrev lip-synced, “How do you sleep at night knowing people don’t like you? With no underwear, in case they want to kiss my ass.” The cryptic post continued by seemingly referring to a relationship in trouble, which fans assumed was her own.

Though Dobrev didn’t elaborate on the breakup further, she had shared a series of Instagram photos from her summer adventures just one day prior, many of which included her then-fiancé. The pair first sparked dating speculation in February 2020, when fans noticed they posted similar photos from a trip to South Africa. Just a couple months later, in April, Us broke the news that Dobrev and White were a couple.
The actress and the Olympic snowboarder went public with their relationship in May 2020. The following year, White opened up to the mag about how they celebrated their first anniversary.
“I wanted to recreate our first date, but everything was closed,” he told us in June 2021. “I managed to sweet talk the owner of the place to open up for us. It was actually pretty fun to have a place all to ourselves.”
White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024. They did not end up tying the knot before their split in September 2025.
