Liam Hemsworth and Gabriella Brooks are officially engaged, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from diving deep into the model’s past, sparking a wild theory involving none other than his ex-wife, Miley Cyrus.
After Brooks, 29, confirmed her engagement to Hemsworth, 35, with a series of intimate Instagram posts on September 12, the focus quickly shifted from her dazzling diamond ring to an unexpected resurfaced rumor. Was she once a backup dancer for Miley Cyrus?
How did the rumor start?
Photos from Miley’s performance at the Capital FM Summertime Ball in London back in June 2014 have reignited speculation.
In the images, a woman with striking similarities to Brooks, down to her facial features and even the placement of freckles and a mole, can be seen dancing alongside the singer.
At the time, Brooks would have been around 17 or 18 years old and, according to reports, living in London. The mystery dancer, pictured far right on stage, bears such a resemblance that online detectives on Twitter and TikTok have been dissecting the image frame by frame.
Despite the compelling side-by-side comparisons, there’s still no solid proof that it’s Gabriella.
Gabriella and Liam's relationship:
Gabriella and Liam have kept a low profile since they began dating in 2019. They rarely share images of each other on social media and have made only a handful of public appearances together over the years.
However, the engagement announcement on Instagram marks a rare personal reveal for the notoriously private couple. Brooks shared a black-and-white image of herself embracing Hemsworth, her engagement ring in full view.
A second shot captured a serene ocean view, and a third zoomed in on her hand resting on a white sheet with the focus squarely on her sparkling ring.
The announcement came a month after engagement rumors started swirling when Brooks was seen sporting a diamond ring while strolling on a yacht dock in Ibiza.
Miley looks back on their marriage:
Miley Cyrus’ 2023 single Flowers, which dropped on Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday, had fans wondering if she was reflecting on her marriage. The track includes pointed lyrics like, “We were good, we were gold, kind of dream that can't be sold,” and “I didn't want to leave you / I didn't wanna lie / Started to cry.”
Fans interpreted the song as a jab at her short-lived marriage to the 'Hunger Games' star. The pair were married in December 2018, but finalized their divorce in early 2020 after less than a year of marriage.
At the time, sources claimed Cyrus had hoped to reconcile the decade-long on-again/off-again relationship, only to be blindsided by Hemsworth’s sudden decision to file for divorce.
