Just when you think the Coldplay kiss-cam scandal is dying out, there's an update. The woman at the center of the viral video, Kristin Cabot, may soon be owed an apology because it seems like she might not have actually been cheating.
© GettyKristin filed for divorce from her soon-to-be ex-husband, Andrew Cabot, on August 13. Weeks later, a spokesperson for the 61-year-old told PEOPLE that he and Kristin “were privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert.”
They added, “Their decision to divorce was already underway before that evening." Now that the divorce filing is public, they said Andrew "hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they’ve always valued.”
There are several interesting things about this, like how similar their names are. The guy on the kiss cam with Kristin is Andy Byron. Like Andy was before the scandal, Andrew is also the CEO of Privateer Rum. DailyMail notes that Andrew comes from one of the original Boston Brahmin families with a mega-rich family fortune and is believed to be an heir to about $15 billion.
His statement also tracks with what his former wife, Julia, told DailyMail. Julia told the outlet she texted him the night it went viral: "I texted Andrew right after it happened, and he said: ‘Her life has nothing to do with me,’ and said they were separating."
While Kristin and Andrew may have been separated, the moral question of whether the Astronomer's chief people officer knew her CEO boss was married still lingers, especially given her reaction.
Life after the scandal
Kristin’s camp has still not spoken out. The couple didn’t share children, though Andrew has two from a previous marriage.
Since the scandal, both Cabot and Byron walked away from their roles at Astronomer. Byron's wife, Megan, removed her last name from her Facebook before shutting down her pages altogether. The couple shared two children.
There have been fake statements released by both of them, but neither has spoken out. According to DailyMail, Megan moved out of their marital home.
As for Astronomer, the company enlisted Martin's ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, to help smooth things over. In a video released after Byron stepped down, Paltrow, 52, explained, “I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer. We’ve been thrilled that so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation.” A source added, “Gwyneth has a really great sense of humor, and it felt funny enough for her to do.”
Coldplay is also carrying on with business as usual. Martin isn’t letting the kiss-cam scandal ruin tradition. He told fans, “Life throws you lemons and you’ve got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you.” He even called out a die-hard fan, “You were at that Boston gig… thank you for coming again after that debacle.”
