Cardi B is no stranger to the courtroom, and one thing she is going to do is make it a fashion show. On Tuesday, the rapper looked carefree and ready for her civil trial in Los Angeles, where a former security guard is suing her for assault and abuse.
Cardi arrived in what looks like a couture suit. It's hot in LA, so the pants and fringed jacket were definitely more for style than comfort. She rocked a pointed heel and blonde hair as she made her way into the courtroom.
The civil assault trial began yesterday, Monday, August 25, and Cardi arrived in a sharp black tailored jacket with a black pixie cut.
The "Bodak Yellow" singer has a history of turning the courtroom into a stage of her own. When there's going to be paparazzi snapping her entrance, it only makes sense that she would look amazing.
Cardi’s legal looks
In 2019, she arrived at the Queens Supreme Court for her strip club assault case in a black suit with a black feather cape and matching hat with Louis Vuitton heels.
Before that, she wore $2,000 Brøgger’s Gurli navy and pink color-blocked pantsuit with a custom pink Hermès Birkin bag.
In 2023, for the compliance hearing, she rocked an incredible all-white designer look with a fur coat.
What is Cardi being sued for?
Cardi's case goes back to 2018 when she was pregnant with Kulture. The incident occurred inside a Beverly Hills medical building. A security guard, Emani Ellis, claims Cardi thought she was recording her and attacked her by spitting on her, body-shaming her, and slashing her face with long nails. She says the injury required plastic surgery.
She filed the lawsuit in 2020, accusing Cardi of assault, battery, and infliction of emotional distress. The mother of three's attorney pushed back, portraying Ellis as the aggressor and pointing out inconsistencies in her testimony. According to Cardi’s team, she was simply scared and protective of her unborn baby when confronted.
Another legal battle around the corner
As this case kicks off, there may be another one around the corner for the rapper stemming back to her infamous microphone throw in Vegas. In July, it was revealed that a woman identified only as Jane Doe is suing Cardi, claiming she was struck by the microphone.
That day, in 110-degree heat, Cardi had asked fans to throw water on her to cool down, just not on her face. When a splash hit her head-on, Cardi hurled the mic into the crowd. Jane Doe says she was the one hit, accusing Cardi of assault, battery, and negligence, and alleging the incident left her emotionally distressed.
