After two years of dating, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, following what has been the most defining summer of their relationship. The singer shared photos of the NFL tight end with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."
The engagement comes after months of rumors that Kelce had a plan in place. In December 2023, Page Six reported that Kelce had already asked Swift’s father, Scott, for her hand in marriage. “Scott has been asked for his blessing and has wholeheartedly given it, and Travis has been talking to friends about a ring,” a source revealed at the time.
NFL insider Adam Schefter fueled speculation in August 2024 when he said that the pair was “headed for the altar.” A year later, insiders doubled down, telling Page Six an engagement was “happening soon.” Concertgoers even overheard the wife of a Chiefs executive discussing wedding plans just days before Kelce’s proposal.
Taylor shared photos of their romantic photoshoot, including a close-up of the stunning engagement ring.
Taylor and Travis' fairytale romance:
Their journey began in the summer of 2023, shortly after Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn and brief fling with The 1975’s Matty Healy. Kelce, who had also just ended his longtime relationship with Kayla Nicole, famously tried and failed to give Swift his number at an Eras Tour show that July.
Despite being turned down backstage, they eventually connected, and the rest is history. Swift later admitted Kelce’s “wild, romantic gesture” of shouting her out on his New Heights podcast in July 2023 made her feel like she was in “an ’80s John Hughes movie.” Kelce, for his part, told GQ that being with her makes him feel like “the luckiest man in the world.”
This summer gave the couple something they hadn’t had before, and that is uninterrupted time together. With Taylor off the road after wrapping her 149-date Eras Tour in December and Kelce regrouping after a Super Bowl loss, the two hunkered down in her $50 million Manhattan penthouse and later at his $20 million Boca Raton rental.
“The break came at the right[moment],” a source told Us Weekly. “Taylor needed to spend more time with Travis [so they could really] get to know each other.” The downtime proved transformative. “They found a lot of common ground they were not expecting, and it made their relationship stronger,” the insider added.
Kelce also said to GQ. “Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people. When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love.”
The singer and the athlete's future ahead:
While Kelce prepares for what could be his final NFL season, Swift is preparing to release 'The Life of a Showgirl,' recorded with Max Martin and Shellback during the European leg of her tour. Kelce is her loudest cheerleader. “Every track is a banger,” he promised to fans.
For the singer, the relationship has brought a sense of certainty. “This time together solidified Taylor knowing that she wants to be with Travis forever,” one source said to Us Weekly. Another added, “They’re on the same page when it comes to settling down. They want to be married and have kids in the future.”
