"As the first woman from Argentina to hold the crown, her elegance, beauty, and pioneering spirit left an indelible mark on our history and inspired future generations. May her memory continue to shine as a symbol of grace, strength, and legacy," they continued. For her homecoming, Nolan can be seen in black and white photos on a parade float, proudly wearing a crown on her head and a sash as she waved. The proud Argentinian can also be heard saying some words in Spanish to reporters.

Nolan wasn’t just another winner. She was a part of Latina history. In 1962, at just 24 years old, Nolan, crowned Miss Argentina, landed in Miami, Florida, for the finals.

Representing her hometown of Venado Tuerto, she beat out 51 contestants from around the globe and was crowned by her predecessor, Marlene Schmidt, Miss Universe 1961. Germany’s Marlene Schmidt. From that moment on, Argentina had its queen.

Back in 1962, the competition was still new, but even then, the stage was massive. Nolan’s poise and undeniable presence took the crown with Finland’s Anja Aulikki as second runner-up, and Iceland’s Anna Geirsdóttir as first runner-up.

Her death comes at a painful time for the Miss Universe family. Just last week, Kseniya Alexandrova, Miss Universe Russia 2017, passed away at just 30 years old after a tragic car accident.

On July 5, she was in the passenger seat of a car while her husband, whom she had just married four months prior, drove. They hit an elk, leaving her severely injured. "An elk jumped out from somewhere, jumped out in front of the car," he said in an interview. "From the moment it jumped out until the impact, a split second passed. I did not have time to do anything. The elk flew into the car. The blow hit [Alexandrova] in the head. She was unconscious, her head was broken, and everything was covered in blood."

She passed away on August 12 after being hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
