Mariah Carey is among a beautiful group of women in Hollywood in their 50s, like Salma Hayek and Jennifer Lopez, who seem to be defying the aging process. The 56-year-old icon looks incredible, and one of her tips is something you can start practicing today.
The "Fantasy" singer has her 16th studio album, “Here For It All,” dropping on September 26, and she's been doing some amazing promotion for it. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she revealed she's using mind over matter when it comes to getting older.
“I don’t allow – it-it just doesn’t happen,” the Queen of Christmas told the outlet. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time – I have a new song that starts with that line,” she added.
It's not the first time Carey has shared her logic. When she turned 50, she had the numbers "12" on her cake, hashtagging #eternally12 on her birthday past.
Over ten years ago, in 2014, she told Out Magazine she "rebukes" time, “I don’t count years but I definitely rebuke them," she said. "I have anniversaries, not birthdays, because I celebrate life, darling."
The following year, in 2015, she told People, “I think I have to remain eternally oblivious to age. Honestly, when you put a number on it yourself, it’s just like, Why? Why do that?”
In 2019, for the 10-year challenge, she put her own spin on it, sharing a side-by-side photo of her in the present. "I don't get this 10-year challenge, time is not something I acknowledge," she captioned the hilarious post. "Picture taken at some point prior to today."
More Mariah Carey's beauty secrets
As for some of her beauty secrets, you can try, besides denial, she has shared some of her tips. She revealed that she bathes in cold milk. "Yes, sometimes I use milk as a beauty treatment," she told Allure, although she did not reveal more information, saying she didn't want to give away all her "secrets."
She's not the only diva who does milk baths. Cleopatra is known to have bathed in donkey's milk, which is said to reduce wrinkles.
Mariah also wears as minimal makeup as possible, "if you’re not wearing a lot of makeup, you don’t have to take a lot of it off. So, my goal is to wear the least amount of makeup possible so I don’t have to steam my face and take it all off," she explained.
As for her diet, she keeps things simple. “All [I] eat is Norwegian salmon and capers. That’s it. I try to stick with the proteins. It’s the worst," she told Shape. And when it comes to fitness, she just wants to stay toned. “For me, that means either taking hour-long walks a few times a week or jumping in the pool three or four days a week to do 45 minutes of aquatic exercises."
