Jennifer Lopez is stepping into a bold new chapter, musically and personally, and she’s doing it with new performances and jaw-dropping wardrobe changes. During her latest stop at the Lucca Summer Festival in Italy, the singer, who celebrated her 56th birthday this week, showcased her emotional new songs, which fans seem to think are aimed at her ex, Ben Affleck.
With her 'Up All Night' tour in full swing, JLo has been leaning into energetic choreography and powerful lyrics, including with the tracks, 'Wreckage of You' and the more defiant 'Up All Night.'
The latter has raised eyebrows for its clear message, with Lopez singing, “I’m up all night, dancing on somebody, living my best life / I bet you wish that you were by my side / I got tired of you breaking me down / Look at me now.”
According to a source close to Lopez, these tracks mark just the beginning of a full album that reflects the emotional turbulence of her breakup with the actor.
“The material is inspired by what she went through during her relationship with Ben,” the source told The US Sun. “‘Wreckage of You’ was so specifically about Ben, and ‘Up All Night’ points to where Jennifer is at in her life right now. This is a whole new era for Jennifer, and she isn’t going to be holding back.”
But it wasn’t just the lyrics that had the crowd going crazy. Between songs, she delivered a series of intimate onstage monologues that quickly went viral.
“I have to be honest with you,” she told fans, “sometimes I get in different moods at night. I don’t know about you, but I do — and sometimes I like it hard.” Her revelations caused laughter and cheers. “Other days, I am feeling a little romantic. You put on candles and soft music. On those days, I like it real slow.”
“And then there’s other days,” she added, grinning, “maybe because it’s a new kind of time for me, maybe because it’s summertime and it’s hot outside, I feel a little more naughty. You ever get that feeling? Where you feel like being naughty? On those days, I like it real fast.”
JLo shows no signs of pulling back. Her shows have featured provocative choreography and unapologetically personal commentary. At a previous stop in Spain, she addressed her marital history head-on after spotting a fan sign reading “J.Lo, marry me?”
“I think I’m done with that,” she declared. “I’ve tried that a few times.” It was reported that JLo is currently working on a full-length album tied closely to her own story.
She’s already revealed tracks that many believe are direct references to Affleck and their tumultuous marriage, including the upcoming 'Birthday,' which appears to be another lyrical swipe: “Every day is my birthday, bitch / You ain’t never seen nobody do it like this / You ain’t gettin’ in tonight, you ain’t on the list.”
While Lopez is embracing her single life, Affleck is reportedly having a harder time moving forward. According to Globe, the actor feels her latest songs have made things “awkward." One insider claimed, “He wants to forget the marriage ever happened, but the track has made that impossible.”
