Shawn Mendes is enjoying summertime in Los Angeles. The singer was seen starting the day, receiving a delivery from Erewhon Market shirtless, revealing a bold new tattoo inked just beneath his pecs. The Canadian star's well-documented collection of tattoos now includes an eagle with wings outstretched across the center of his chest.
The tattoo made its first appearance online back in April when LA-based artist Kane Navasard posted a close-up of the ink on Instagram with the caption, “Soaring to new heights, for my bro @shawnmendes.” The ink marks his 19th known piece, which is part of a growing collection of deeply personal body art.
From a light bulb symbolizing his second album 'Illuminate,' to a meditating stick figure on his wrist that nods to his mindfulness practice, his tattoos are a visual diary. His torso and arms now feature tributes to family, music, and life itself, including a butterfly blooming into flowers on his bicep, an elephant, a guitar, a sparrow, a red line running down the back of his neck, and even the phrase “Good Boy,” believed to honor his dog, Tarzan.
Fans have also spotted a nude man and woman embracing, a design created by artist Guanina Cotto, along with “Dos Reis,” “Good luck,” a sun, an angel wing, and his sister’s name, Aaliyah Maria. The tiny “A” he added behind his right ear in 2019 is a nod to her.
Back in 2019, Mendes and then-girlfriend Camila Cabello were seen getting tattoos together. Later that year, a fan suggested a butterfly tattoo design on social media, which Mendes loved so much he responded, “Wait this is awesome, can u DM the drawing ??”
That sketch became the now-iconic butterfly with floral wings inked by Toronto-based artist Livia Tsang. It remains one of the most talked-about tattoos in his collection.
While he has yet to publicly comment on the symbolism behind the eagle, his ink often speaks for itself and fans continue to speculate on its meaning. Some believe it represents freedom, strength, or a new chapter in the singer’s evolving identity.
Currently, Mendes is preparing to hit the road again. In May, he announced his 'On the Road Again' tour to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of his debut album 'Handwritten.' The tour kicks off this August and spans both Europe and North America.
