Matthew McConaughey is keeping his eye on the tragic situation that's developing in Texas. In a new statement shared on social media, McConaughey brought awareness to the Texas floods and encouraged his followers to help out Texans in need in any way they can.
The statement was shared on Instagram in union with his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey. The couple is based in Texas, raising their three kids there and becoming some of the state's most prominent figures and speakers.
"At least 70 lives have been lost, many more are unaccounted for, and countless Texans are hurting - inside and out," reads the statement, which was shared on Sunday.
"If you're able, please lend a helping hand where and how you can. It's gonna be a long road ahead, but right now the shock, the pain, and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor. Texans are some of the most resilient and generous people on the planet."
Celebrities offer support to the affected victims
Comments on the post included all manner of support and prayers for Texans, with many discussing how strong Texans are and their ability to overcome tragedies. McConaughey joins a roster of celebrities who've shared their support for the state over the past days, including Jennifer Garner, Hilary Duff, and more.
Shakira shared a moving statement while performing in San Antonio. "Tonight, my heart is in mourning for this terrible tragedy that has happened here in Texas. I can only think about the affected families and their pain," she said at the concert. She dedicated the performance to the affected victims and pledged part of the show's proceeds to the Catholic Charities of San Antonio, which have been providing help to Texas families throughout the disaster.
As of this writing, over 80 people have been killed by the flash floods that took place over the weekend in Texas. One of the most affected sites was Camp Mystic, a Catholic girls' summer camp, with many of the campers found dead or reported missing.
