More details about Ferrera and Piers Williams
Ferrera and Piers Williams have been together for most of their lives. The pair met in the year 2005, on the set of the short film "Muertas," when the two were students at the University of Southern California. They married in 2010 and have welcomed two children since, Sebastian and Lucia.
The two are actors and filmmakers, with Piers Williams having directed Ferrera at different points in her career. Most notably, the pair played each other's partners in "Barbie," with Piers Williams having a brief but memorable appearance.
"I was telling her all my favorite parts of the script and all the parts that made me laugh out loud," said Ferrera to PEOPLE about the movie's director, Greta Gerwig. "And I said, 'Oh my God, I laughed so hard when you cut to the dad doing his Spanish lessons,' because my husband was literally in the other room doing his Spanish lessons."
"Right away she was like, 'Oh my God, does he want to play your husband?' And I was like, 'I don't know, you'll have to ask him,'" said Ferrera.
