Even Brad Pitt has been starstruck, but only twice. While appearing on the July 2 episode of the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, the 61-year-old Oscar winner admitted the only two women who ever truly took his breath away were his 1991 co-stars.
Talking about Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, the actor had nothing but good things to say about them, including his first impression of the stars. “When I first met Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, I was. Yeah,” Pitt said of his 'Thelma & Louise' co-stars.
“I got over it quickly, though.” The 1991 road drama was Pitt’s breakout role. He played J.D., a charming drifter who seduces Davis’ Thelma, steals her money, and disappears. Though he was still relatively unknown at the time, his co-stars took notice immediately.
“He just has ‘it.’ I could tell when he was auditioning that he was super talented,” Davis told People in 2020. “He has done so many incredible things over the years. I don’t think that it is unusual for him to be honored. He really is the ‘star’ of the moment, which is fabulous, and it is just great to see.”
Sarandon was equally impressed by Pitt’s performance. “When I saw the film, the part that really impressed me, in addition to his good looks and great body, was his sense of humor because he really fleshed that part out in a way that wasn’t necessarily in the script,” she told Extra in 2021. “I thought, ‘Ah, this guy’s interesting, you know, he’s not just a really gorgeous face.’”
“He took it as a character part and as we can see from his career, he really continued to push the envelope in ways that he really didn’t have to when you look like that,” she added.
In a 2023 interview with W Magazine, Pitt opened up about shooting his now-famous love scene with Davis. “Geena [Davis] was so sweet and kind and delicate. That love scene, I think, went on for two days of shooting. She took care of me,” he said.
