Hollywood royalty and real royalty came together (again) at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. Amal and George Clooney reunited with King Charles at a reception for winners of the King’s Trust and TK Maxx and Homesense Awards.
The human rights lawyer looked elegant at the palace, dressed in a black off-the-shoulder dress that featured bow details, while her Oscar-winning husband sported a grey suit. The Clooneys are supporters of The King’s Trust (formerly the Prince’s Trust), a charity that helps "young people from disadvantaged communities and those facing the greatest adversity by supporting them to build the confidence and skills to live, learn and earn."
The royal family's social media accounts shared a video from the event, including footage of His Majesty speaking with George and Amal. "Today, our King’s Trust Award winners and Celebrity Ambassadors had the honour of attending a special reception with our Royal Founding President, His Majesty The King, at Buckingham Palace," the video was captioned. "This memorable event celebrated their remarkable achievements ahead of tomorrow’s award show. 🏆The awards honour those who have been supported by The Trust, and those who mentor them, in the UK and across the world. We are immensely proud of the extraordinary accomplishments of our young people and volunteers - their courage and commitment continues to inspire us all. 👏#KingsTrustAwards #BuckinghamPalace."
In 2019, the charity formerly known as the Prince’s Trust International launched the "Amal Clooney Award" to celebrate the achievements of young women. In a statement at the time, Amal said, “I am honoured to have been invited by Prince’s Trust International to participate in this global initiative celebrating young women who are change-makers in their communities. It is a privilege to be able to play a part in a project that will draw attention to incredible young women who are the future leaders of our world."
The winner of this year's Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award is 19-year-old Alice, who, according to The King’s Trust "turned a traditional Kenyan craft into a lifeline to support her family and to enable other girls in her community to forge a livelihood." The awards ceremony is taking place on June 26 at the Royal Festival Hall. The intimate celebration the day before at Buckingham Palace was not the first time the Clooneys have met the King.
Amal attended the then-called Prince's Trust Awards in 2022, and in 2019, she and George made a glamorous appearance at Buckingham Palace for a dinner to celebrate the charity. According to Metro UK, George later laughed, "We’re invading Buckingham Palace."
The Clooneys were also guests at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 2018 royal wedding, and in 2019, Amal attended Meghan Markle's baby shower held at The Mark Hotel in New York City.
