Beyoncé gave fans an unforgettable moment during her Cowboy Carter tour stop in London on Thursday night (June 12th) when she paused the high-energy show to celebrate her twins’ birthday. The 43-year-old superstar, mom to Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir with husband Jay-Z, took a beat mid-performance to honor Rumi and Sir’s big day in front of a roaring crowd. The iconic pop singer told the crowd, “Everybody say happy birthday, Rumi” As thousands of fans looked on, Beyoncé called on the audience to help her wish Rumi and Sir a happy eighth birthday.

Bringing Sir on stage, she added, “Say happy birthday, Sir! Mommy loves you” Standing beside her mother was Blue Ivy Carter, 13, who affectionately cradled Rumi’s chin as the child smiled and leaned into Beyoncé’s embrace.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z married in 2008 after several years of dating and welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy, in 2012. Rumi and Sir were born in 2017.

Blue Ivy has joined her mother on stage since the Renaissance World Tour. Also, Beyoncé’s youngest daughter, Remi, made her musical debut on the Cowboy Carter album, opening the track Protector by asking, “Mom, can I hear the lullaby please.”

Sir tends to remain out of the public eye but made a rare appearance during the opening night of the Cowboy Carter tour on April 28th at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

During the nearly three-hour performance, Beyoncé played a home video that included footage of all three of her children.

In 2017, Jay-Z, 55, explained the inspiration behind the twins’’ names. He said, “Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter. Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, 71, offered further insight into her grandchildren during an interview with E! News at the Kentucky Derby in May 2024.

She said, “Rumi is amazing, an amazing artist, painter and creator. How could they be anything else growing up in that environment? All we talk about is creativity and fashion.”
