At just 16 years old, Kai Schreiber is harnessing her star power. The daughter of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber has no question when it comes to her future - she wants to be a supermodel.
Kai transitioned at a young age and has had the support of her parents in all aspects of her life. In a recent interview with Interview, she opened up about her dreams, saying, "I want to be a supermodel. Period."
The teenager is signed to IMG models and has already walked at Paris Fashion Week. In March 2025, she hit the runway for Valentino's "Le Meta-Theatre des Intimites" and looked just like a professional. Which isn't too surprising because she's been putting in the work. "I’ve been practicing my walks in the kitchen for years; my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film," she added.
Reflecting on her supermodel dreams, the eloquent and intelligent dreamer said, "Struggling with gender identity from a young age, most likely had something to do with it." "I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn," the model explained.
It's no secret that the world is not always kind to the trans community. As a young trans girl, Kai said she's "always going to look up to the older generation of transgender people, especially in fashion." "It’s so great that there’s a strong community of us in the fashion world; it’s really a doll takeover. It’s important to all of us to have a sense of community, especially when we’re under such hostile attack," she continued.
What Kai's parents have said about her journey
Some celebrity parents have said they don't want their kids to get into the industry until they're 18, but Kai's parents, who are no longer together, have been on her side. Naomi always shouts her out on Instagram, sharing how proud she is of her.
Her father, Liev, said Kai has "always been Kai," but told Variety, "The most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns." "To be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long," he explained.
He also opened up about the trans community as a whole. “This is actually a community of people who don’t have great resources, who don’t have access to help, who aren’t being protected and looked after by their families," Liev said.
"These are people who are being rejected. These are people who are experiencing the harshest version of humanity that we can offer, and some of them are not surviving it," he added. “Kai is such a fighter. It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me."
