Trace Cyrus is making headlines after calling out his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, in a scathing social media post, labeling him “pathetic,” “washed up,” and “fame-hungry.” The 36-year-old artist alleged that Billy Ray skipped the 2020 funeral of Loretta Finley, Trace’s grandmother and the mother of Billy’s ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, opting instead for a high-profile appearance in Italy, reportedly alongside his new girlfriend, actress Elizabeth Hurley.
Loretta, who died in August 2020, aged 85, was known as Mammie and is the mother of Billy’s ex, Tish Cyrus, who the musician was married to from 1993 to 2022.
Trace, whose sister is pop megastar Miley Cyrus, 32, has claimed his father “wouldn’t” attend the funeral despite still being married to Tish at the time.
He shared a picture of Billy on Instagram and wrote: “This man is so hungry for fame, it’s pathetic. He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn’t come to LA for Mammie’s funeral while he was still married to my mom.”
“Even after his daughter got him a 60k private jet like he demanded then he still didn’t come after the plane was paid for.”
Trace appeared to be referencing Billy recently heading to Italy for a jaunt with his new girlfriend, actress Elizabeth Hurley. In the post, Trace continued to hit out at his dad, describing him as a clown and the “lamest man to ever walk planet earth”.
He wrote, “You’re the lamest man to ever walk planet earth. Honestly embarrassed to have ever considered you my idol.”
Trace also slammed the Achy Breaky Heart singer as “delusional” and an “evil person” as he rounded off his no-nonsense Instagram attack. He posted, “The best thing to come from your downfall is that it made me go into beast mode.”
“I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I’m old like you. Christ is King. Get right with God. You need it.”
In the post’s caption, Trace simply shared a clown emoji. He also turned the Instagram comments off. A representative of Billy Ray is yet to respond to comment requests.
