Dakota Johnson shares what she won't tolerate in a relationship after split from Chris Martin

Dakota Johnson keeps her dating standards simple. While the actress is known for keeping her personal life private, including her love life amid recent confirmation of her split from Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin, she declared what she will not tolerate in a romantic relationship.

While promoting her new film 'Materialists' alongside Chris Evans on TODAY, the actress revealed her one “non-negotiable” when it comes to relationships. Evans joked, “Must love dogs,” to which she simply said, “Like, not an a------.” Her response sparked laughter from the crew.

In 'Materialists,' she plays Lucy, a matchmaker who expertly finds love for her clients but struggles with her own romantic life. “I hope people consider living authentically and ask themselves what they really want for themselves, not what they think life should look like,” she said about the movie.

The film explores modern love’s complexities, with Evans noting that “love has kind of devolved into a calculation. While Dakota promotes the film, reports about her love life have been taking center stage. Multiple sources confirmed that she ended her relationship with Chris after almost 8 years of dating.

The couple kept their romance private, rarely seen together publicly and avoiding engagement rumors for years. In March 2024, reports suggested they had been secretly engaged for six years, but neither confirmed it.

The reason for the breakup involved the engagement, as the actress was “sick of him dragging his feet on setting a wedding date,” as reported by Page Six, and disagreements over having children added strain. The singer, who is reportedly “done with that part of his life,” clashed with her desire for a family in the future.

Insiders reveal the split has been long in the making, with the two “breaking up and making up” over the years. A source told the Daily Mail, “Dakota held a flame for them because she loved him and his kids so much.” 

Now, she is focusing on her career, with 'Materialists' hitting theaters this month and Splitsville also on the horizon. Meanwhile, the singer continues his sold-out Coldplay world tour.
