Now Karol is ready for a new era with her new music video, wearing a bikini with a remarkable backstory. One of the two swimsuits featured in the video was originally worn by legendary Mexican vedette Rossy Mendoza, a cabaret icon of the 1970s and ’80s.

The emerald green, sequin-trimmed bikini with fringe detail was not just another bold fashion choice, showcasing her stunning figure and new hairstyle. It was a homage to Rossy, with the jaw-dropping look originally crafted in the '70s by famed Mexican designer Mitzy (Jorge García Cárdenas).

The outfit had once adorned Rossy, a staple of Mexican cabaret, film, and theater. Known as “the smallest waist in showbiz” and “the perfect body,” Mendoza was a fixture in the golden age of nightclub entertainment, often performing alongside icons like Juan Gabriel, Celia Cruz, and Vicente Fernández.

She starred in more than 50 films, including Santo contra los secuestradores (1972) and ¡Qué buena está mi ahijada! (1987), and made memorable TV appearances in telenovelas and variety shows throughout her career.

Mendoza passed away in December 2023 at the age of 78, but her legacy lives on, now on the world stage, thanks to Karol G. It was confirmed that the bikini was provided for the shoot through a collaboration with Mendoza’s daughter, Silvana Durán, who manages her late mother's audiovisual archive.

“I have no words to thank you for this collaboration using my mother Rossy Mendoza’s wardrobe with the great international star Karol G. It’s such an honor. I’m so grateful and so happy. My mother would also be thrilled to see this powerful, wonderful star wearing her bikini," Silvana wrote.

Rossy’s granddaughter, Mariana Durán, echoed the sentiment:“It’s a dream come true. Thank you for making this happen!!!!! My grandma would be overjoyed.”
