Sydney Sweeney has spoken publicly for the first time about her split from former fiancé Jonathan Davino.
“I’m learning a lot about myself [and] spending more time with my friends,” the 27-year-old actress told The Times of London in a profile published on Saturday, May 31. “I’m loving it.”
Sweeney and Davino, 41, began dating back in 2018, maintaining a relatively low profile throughout their relationship. In March, Us Weekly reported that the two had ended their engagement and decided to part ways. When asked by The Times whether a wedding was still on the horizon, Sweeney simply replied, “no.”
“They were supposed to get married this spring. The wedding is not happening, and they aren’t having further discussions about it,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Sydney wanted to cancel everything and couldn’t handle the stress. A lot of their issues stem from Sydney being extremely busy with work commitments.”
Sweeney echoed this in her interview, pointing to her demanding schedule.
“I took three weeks off in April last year,” she said, explaining she works days, nights, and weekends, surviving on just four hours of sleep a night. “There’s 24 hours in a day, obviously, but I make sure that there are 26 for me.”
The actress currently has a packed slate, with several film and television projects in the works — including the third season of HBO’s Euphoria. Sweeney successfully stepped out of Cassie’s shadow with 2023’s Anyone But You, a romantic comedy inspired by Much Ado About Nothing, where she starred opposite Glen Powell.
“It’s always beautiful to see people fall in love with characters and be really supportive of stuff that they see on screen,” she said of the film’s success. “Glen and I adore each other, so I think we were so happy for the reception of the film.”
Speculation swirled during the film’s press tour that Sweeney and Powell, 36, were more than co-stars. However, they both denied being romantically involved. At the time, Sweeney was still with Davino, who also served as a co-producer on the film, while Powell was dating his now-ex, Gigi Paris.
“When you spend so much time with someone, you become close and you talk to each other about anything,” Sweeney said of her connection with Powell. “So work, life, family [and] friends, he’s just there for me. I’m there for him.”
