Michelle Obama is in her entertainment and dancing era. While promoting her new memoir on the nine-city book tour, Matriarch, she joined Tina Knowles-yes, Beyoncé’s mom-for a special chat in D.C. But it wasn’t just talk. Michelle surprised the crowd with a dance that stole the show and had everyone clapping along.
It all went down at the MGM National Harbor for "Matriarch: An Evening with Tina Knowles, Family and Friends," on April 30, and the evening ended with them dancing to "Boots on the Ground" by 803Fresh. There's a line dance that goes with the funky track, and the former first lady is a straight-up professional.
Earlier backstage, Michelle recorded a video practicing her steps before hitting the stage. “A little rehearsal before hitting the stage,” she wrote.
The author rocked flared jeans, a light blue shoulder-baring top, and silver pointed heels before changing into a black Alexander McQueen suit with bold shoulders and a braided high ponytail. She added some sparkle with Yvonne Léon disco-ball earrings and rings, plus a green manicure that popped against her all-black look.
Tina wore a black and silver long-sleeved gown and gloves, showing where Queen Bey got some of her diva energy from. She did her best to keep up with the dance but admitted she got stuck on one of the parts, saying, "I don't know that part."
It's always nice seeing people like Michelle let loose and show their fun, carefree side. The moment felt especially powerful coming just days after Michelle shared on the On Purpose podcast that she’s going through a transition and is currently in therapy. “I’m in therapy because I’m in transition,” she said. “I’ve been going through a hard stage, but my family is intact. My girls are out of the house, and now, for the first time, every decision I make is fully mine.”
The 61-year-old also recently took a moment to shut down the silly divorce rumors between her and Barack while on her IMO podcast. "If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it," she quipped.
