In an appearance on the "Table Manners" podcast hosted by Jessie and Lennie Ware, Gomez shared that she hadn't liked any of the people she'd dated before her relationship with Blanco

"I hadn't liked anyone in a very long time," she said.

She illustrated her example by discussing her first kiss with him, revealing that she felt "embarrassed" over the strong feelings it produced.

"Some kisses are for fun, and then when you feel something behind a kiss, it's completely different," said Gomez. "And I'd been alone for about five years, with the exception of a few shi**y dates here and there, but never felt that way. And I was a little embarrassed."

Before Blanco, Gomez reportedly dated various celebrities, including DJ Zedd and The Weeknd. Before that, she was involved in a long-term relationship with Justin Bieber.

Earlier this year, Gomez's beauty brand, Rare Beauty, was selected as one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential companies. In a profile, she discussed her experiences as a single woman, and how, in the end, she learned to embrace it.

“I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it," she said.

"A lot of people are afraid of being alone, and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

Of meeting Blanco and finding love again, she said, “It just happens when you least expect it."
