The legal battle between Maribel Guardia and her former daughter-in-law, Imelda Tuñón, is behind them, but their rift remains deep. In the midst of this, questions have arisen about whether the Lagunilla mi barrio star will one day allow her grandson José Julián to visit his father’s ashes. Currently, Julián Figueroa’s remains rest in a special spot at his grandmother’s home, and mindful of his seven-year-old grandson, she’s already made plans so he can see his dad’s ashes anytime he wants.

Will José Julián be able to visit his father’s ashes?

Maribel Guardia will be moving her son’s ashes into a church crypt so her grandson can visit them freely. Currently, the urn is placed in a designated area of her home in south Mexico City, which Imelda and José Julián can’t access since they no longer live there. To change that, Maribel explains:

“I’ve already purchased a burial niche for Julián at a church very close to my home...Someday it will be there so that the boy, if I never see him again, can have access to his father’s ashes—and that’s something I need to arrange in due time.”

Fractured relationship

When it comes to her relationship with Imelda, the 65-year-old actress admits there’s no contact these days, yet she still holds out hope for peace—and only wants what’s best for her former daughter-in-law.“May God protect her, may God bless her, may God give her strength—because if she’s okay, the child is okay.”

Maribel also stressed that her social media channels are open to Imelda, and she’d rather not rekindle old arguments.

“I’m not going to talk about those things. The truth is, my social media is open, and thank God I have so much love from my followers—right? There are always people who love you and people who don’t, but my followers are incredibly loving: they lift my spirits and pray for me, and I appreciate it so much. My social media and my WhatsApp are completely open to her.”

She believes that, in time, she and Imelda will find common ground, after all, they both love Julián and want what’s best for him. “(Communication) will happen in the future. Obviously we have something in common—Julián; she loves him and I love him, and what we both want is what’s best for him.”

Hope of reuniting with her grandson

As for seeing little Juliancito again—he turns eight on May 2—Maribel hasn’t lost hope.

“I hope that in the future—he knows—I’ve been with this child since he was born; he’s about to turn eight and I’ve always kept him close. I prayed with him every night, I know he knows me; I know that one day I’ll see him again, whether the law allows it or life itself does. We have to leave it to time.”

Beyond her dream of reuniting with her grandson, Maribel offered her kindest wishes to Imelda, who’s carving out her own path in entertainment.

“What I want most is for Imelda to be happy, to be well; may God be with her because she’s young… I hope she’s okay—I pray for her with all my heart; every night I pray for her.”
