Oscar nominee, co-chair, and style king Colman Domingo is officially locked and loaded for the 2025 Met Gala, and Anna Wintour reacted. In an episode of Vogue's "The Run Through" podcast released April 21, Domingo dished on the fashion equivalent of a divine blessing: a "work of art" text from Wintour herself after he revealed his look for fashion's biggest night.

"I was like, 'I think I need to reveal my Met look to her now, I think that's what the question marks are,'" Domingo said, recalling a text from Wintour checking in on his film shoot and his Met Gala ensemble.

The Text That Rocked His World

Like any sane person who just sent their big outfit reveal to fashion's high priestess, Domingo spiraled a bit while waiting for a reply. "I died with the response," he confessed. "I was like, 'Hello my friend, blah blah blah…' and I sent her the look."

Then came the wait. Hours ticked by. Domingo wouldn't (couldn't) sleep without closure. Finally, at 9:47 p.m., Wintour texted back: "Work of art." Domingo, understandably, threw his arms up and declared, "I'm good, you guys! I'm gonna be alright."

2025's Theme: Tailored, Timeless, and Totally Personal

This year's Met Gala is a history lesson in swagger. The event will celebrate the Costume Institute's spring 2025 exhibit "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," a deep dive into the rich legacy of Black dandyism.

Inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," the exhibit will feature everything from 18th-century garments to contemporary couture. Miller herself is stepping in as guest curator alongside Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's resident visionary.

The dress code is "Tailored for You,"  an open-ended prompt encouraging guests to interpret menswear through their own lens. And with Black style and tailoring at the center, expect bold reinventions, slick suits, and a sea of custom pieces worthy of a museum wing.

Colman Domingo: From Debut to Co-Chair

Domingo made his Met Gala debut in 2024 and did not come to play. His custom Willy Chavarria suit was a heartfelt tribute to Chadwick Boseman and André Leon Talley, icons of style and substance. It was classic Domingo: thoughtful, theatrical, and tailored to perfection.

He's co-chairing the 2025 gala alongside Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and honorary chair LeBron James. That's a table full of fashion royalty and cultural heavyweights.

What Can We Expect From Domingo's Look?

While he hasn't revealed specifics (and we wouldn't dare spoil the surprise), Domingo's past red carpet-choices suggest we're in for a moment. Think structure with soul. The high concept with heart. Possibly something that nods to Black fashion history, with that Colman confidence that makes the cameras go wild.

So, as the clock ticks down to May 5, Domingo's look is already iconic before it even hits the Met steps.
