Monica Lewinsky spent much of her life avoiding the spotlight due to the media coverage of her affair with Bill Clinton

Lewinsky was featured on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, where she discussed her notorious affair with Clinton and the effect that the media had on her life.

“I think that the right way to handle a situation like that would have been to probably say it was nobody’s business and to resign,” said Lewinsky. “Or to find a way of staying in office that was not lying and not throwing a young person who is just starting out in the world under the bus.”

Lewinsky believes that women were affected by that scandal, even if they had no direct connection to her story.

“I think there was so much collateral damage for women of my generation to watch a young woman be pilloried on a world stage – to be torn apart for my sexuality, for my mistakes, for my everything," she said.

During 1995 and 1996, a 22-year-old Lewinsky engaged in a brief affair with President Bill Clinton while serving as an intern in the White House.

While Clinton initially denied the affair, he later confirmed it, resulting in his impeachment while serving as President. The Senate voted to acquit him but the news resulted in a media scandal, with Lewinsky having to disappear from the public eye.

“I was lucky enough to hold onto a strand of my true self, but I lost my future,” said Lewinsky. “I’m so grateful for how my life has changed in the last 10 years. … But that certainly was not a given.”
