In the meantime, José Luis Arévalo, a seasoned journalist and frequent Televisa contributor, stepped in. Despite facing personal challenges—including his father’s hospitalization—he seamlessly covered for Acevedo. Yet, the mystery surrounding Acevedo’s disappearance only deepened.

After much anticipation, Acevedo returned to the screen on Monday, February 3, and took to social media to reveal the cause of his absence: a terrifying hiking accident that could have been fatal. He detailed the severe injuries he sustained—70 stitches on his forehead, a fractured nose, and a black eye—but expressed gratitude for his recovery and appreciation for life.

Upon his return to En Punto, Acevedo appeared wearing glasses and with visible swelling, drawing viewers' attention. He thanked Arévalo for stepping in during his absence and reassured the audience of his commitment to delivering the news. "I was out for several days due to an accident—that’s why the glasses, that’s why the swelling—but I remain dedicated to informing you," he stated.

Acevedo described the incident as a moment of tranquility that took a sudden and unexpected turn. A peaceful walk quickly became a life-threatening situation. Reflecting on the intensity of the moment, he emphasized the gravity of the accident. What could have been a tragedy instead became a life-changing experience, leaving him deeply grateful to be alive.

"On Sunday, I had a dangerous fall during a hike that could have ended badly. But "almost" doesn't count, and today, I'm here, grateful for the good "almosts" in life. Sharing this and moving sharing this and moving forward with love and appreciation," he posted. "And 70 stiches, a broken nose, and one hell of a black eye..."
