Celebrity divorces could be brutal when it comes to assets. Mary-Kate Olsen and her ex-husband Olivier Sarkozy’s divorce was settled this year in January after 5 years of marriage and as a result, the businesswoman lost the Manhattan mansion they were renovating. The home was technically purchased by Sarkozy alone in 2014 for $13.5 million and Olsen was never listed as an owner, per Guest of Guest. The couple was renovating the mansion at the time of their split and never actually moved into the home so it remains unfinished for $11.5 million. Check out the Regency-style house below.

Sarkozy purchased the 8,700-square-foot house in Turtle Hill for $13.5 million in 2014. It was originally built in 1860 and renovated in the ’20s by heiress Charlotte Hunnewell Sorchan who purchased 21 homes on the street.

Having a backyard is rare in NYC, the townhouse has a sprawling garden that spread across shared backyards. There is also a grand ballroom, 22-foot coffered ceilings, seven fireplaces.

Sarkozy is the half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and he purchased the home shortly before he and Olsen were married. The couple worked on renovations together up until their divorce in early 2020.

Mary-Kate and Sarkozy rented townhouses nearby during construction. Olsen attempted to file for an emergency divorce and seemed to continue using their homes and apartments after Sakozoy ended the lease on their $29,000-per-month Gramercy Park home. She claimed in the court docs, “my husband expects me to move out of our home on [May 18] in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19.” The judge denied the petition and she moved to a $325,000 Hamptons rental for the summer. It‘s not clear if she has since moved.

Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Mary-Kate and her twin sister Ashley Olsen are each worth $250 million, so Mary-Kate should be able to find another property to renovate to her liking soon.
