Social media has completely changed the way we interact with not only our closest friends and one-time acquaintances, but the biggest celebrities in the world.

Not long ago, the only way we knew what out favorite stars were up to was by seeing the occasional paparazzi shot or a tell-all interview on a prime time TV network. Now, things couldn’t be more different.

While some famous folks complain about the negativity that comes with having such a huge following at your fingertips, others love how close they can be with their hoards of supporters. But still, even the most social media savvy celebs can make a mistake or two--which will live on forever, thanks to the never-ending memory that is the internet.

From leaking their own nudes to obvious photoshop fails, let’s take a look at 10 of the biggest social media mess-ups from our favorite celebs:

Chris Evans

It’s hard to forget the time Chris Evans leaked his own nude photos, especially since it happened during quarantine, when everyone was on their phones 24/7.

In September 2020, the Captain America star accidentally posted the NSFW photos to his Instagram Story before quickly deleting them upon realizing his mistake. Unfortunately, hundreds of fans saw the pictures and took screenshots, spreading them online.

“You know, things happen. It’s embarrassing, but you gotta roll with the punches,” he said in an interview after the mishap. “I will say, I have some pretty fantastic fans who really came to my support. That was really, really nice.”

Scott Disick

By now, we all know how Instagram ads work, but it doesn’t make this mess-up any better.

In May 2016, Scott Disick posted a photo of himself holding a Bootea shake, a protein supplement geared toward weight loss that was super popular for IG ads years ago.

While the name of the product is pretty embarrassing in itself, things got even worse when Scott accidentally copy + pasted the caption the brand gave to him, showing fans the instructions he was given for the advertisement.

“Here you go, at 4pm est, write the below. Caption: Keeping up with the summer workout routine with my morning @booteauk,” he wrote.

Of course, it was quickly deleted, but screenshots live forever.

Lindsay Lohan

A lot of celebrities have been caught with some hilariously awful photoshop fails, but this entry from Lindsay Lohan just might take the cake.

In March 2015, the socialite posted a picture of herself to Instagram, posing with her hands on her knee to accentuate her assets. Unfortunately for Lohan, her photo editing skills still needed a little work, and fans immediately noticed the door behind her being distorted with her butt.

Jonathan dos Santos

LA Galaxy star Jonathan dos Santos has been charming women both on and off the field for years now, so it’s not exactly surprising that he’s probably gone on a few dates with gorgeous women.

It was surprising, however, when he accidentally uploaded a photo of himself in bed with one of them.

In May 2020, the soccer star posted a private selfie to his Instagram Story, which featured an Instagram model kissing him on the chest while they were both shirtless. It took about 5 minutes for dos Santos to realize the mistake and delete the intimate image, giving fans ample time to screenshot and share the pic elsewhere.

Ariana Grande

While some celebs like to keep their fans at a distance, Ariana Grande has always had a very close relationship with her supporters. That obviously comes with its perks, but also means her fans won’t hesitate to tell her when she makes a mistake.

In January 2019, the singer got a tattoo to commemorate one of her songs, writing out what she thought was “7 rings” in Japanese. Unfortunately for Grande, fans were quick to point out that the characters she got etched on her skin actually translated to “shichirin,” a small charcoal grill.

“Indeed, I left out ‘つの指’ which should have gone in between. It hurt like fuck n still looks tight. I wouldn’t have lasted one more symbol lmao,” she tweeted after deleted the photo. “But this spot also peels a ton and won’t last so if I miss it enough I’ll suffer thru the whole thing next time.”

She later went on to tweet, “Pls leave me and my tambourine grill alone. thank u.”

Rita Ora

Rita Ora will never be able to live this one down.

In October 2014, the singer took to Twitter to tease new music, trying to gauge just how many of her supporters would hype her up. Unfortunately...she didn’t get the response she was hoping for.

Ora tweeted, “Dropping my new song monday if this gets 100,000 retweets.” Sadly, it only got around 2,000.

Following the lackluster response, the star came back to the app to claim her account was hacked, which just made the whole thing that much more embarrassing.

“By the way my Twitter got hacked somebody is threatening to release new music I‘ve worked really hard on,” she wrote at the time. “Nothing comes out until I’m ready.”

Lorde

Now this one is just too big of a coincidence...

In 2018, Lorde posted a photo of her bathtub along with the caption, “And iii will always love you.” The lyrics were taken from a Dolly Parton song, which was popularized by late Whitney Houston. Houston drowned in a bathtub in 2012 at the age of 48.

Of course, the singer deleted the photo and issued an apology.

“Extremely extremely poor chosen quote,” Lorde wrote on her Instagram story at the time. “I’m so sorry for offending anyone — I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I’m an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again.”

Kylie Jenner

The Kardashian/Jenner clan might have more social media mishaps than any other celebs, but this one from Kylie Jenner takes the cake.

In April 2015, she uploaded an Instagram pic from a professional photoshoot, which shows the reality star looking very different from her usual self. People accused her of trying to appear like a different race, which is something she and her sisters have come under fire for several times.

It didn’t help that she captioned it, “What I wish I looked like all the time,” acknowledging that the photo has been heavily edited.

She ended up deleting the controversial post before defending herself more on Twitter, writing, “The photographer used a black light & neon lights for those photos. Let’s all calm down.”

Zac Efron

It’s hard to imagine how Zac Efron thought this one was a good idea.

In January 2016, the High School Musical star celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with an appreciation post...unfortunately, he combined that with his love for all of his social media followers, making for a weird combination.

“I’m grateful for a couple things today: Martin Luther King Jr & 10 million followers on IG,” he wrote under a photo of himself, receiving a ton of scrutiny.

He later deleted the tweet and apologized, writing, “I have nothing but the greatest admiration & respect for MLK. My last post was insensitive & I apologize to anyone who I offended. So sorry.”

Tom Holland

Before Tom Holland and Zendaya were spotted kissing in July 2020, fans were always looking for any sign that the Spider-Man co-stars were actually a couple in real life.

Tom only worsened those suspicions in May 2019, when Tom posted a photo of himself with his cast mates and tagged Zendaya’s IG handle on his crotch.

“I‘m assuming because you don’t know how to work ig, that’s the reasoning behind my name placement,” Z wrote in his comments with five laughing emojis.

Of course, Holland moved the tag and gave Zendaya a thank you in his amended caption. “Thanks @zendaya for making me aware of my obvious blunder,” he wrote.

Still, fans think he did it on purpose.
