This Fall–Winter 2025/26, one of the trending shades is the ultra-bright brunette known as glossed chestnut. According to experts, it strikes the perfect balance, “not too cool and not overly warm.”

However, beyond seasonal trends, there are timeless hair colors that transcend fashion, flatter the features, and add a youthful glow, especially after the age of 40. Before choosing any shade, experts emphasize the importance of personalized advice.

Every change, whether in color, haircut, or hairstyle, should be tailored to the individual. While these tones share the benefit of softening features and rejuvenating the face, consulting a trusted professional ensures the result is both flattering and natural.

From luminous blondes to soft brunettes and revitalizing reds, here are the 3 expert-approved tones that bring out the best in your look.

Golden and Ash Blonde

Glana Bachir, color transformation expert and salon director, explains: “Blonde is without a doubt the best at concealing gray hairs while adding incredible luminosity to the face. That’s why it becomes the favorite choice for many women after 40.”

When it comes to the most rejuvenating effect, ash blonde is her top recommendation: “Ash tones soften expression lines and also help minimize the appearance of redness in the skin.”

Rosa Roselló, Training Director at Druni, highlights the rising popularity of the vanilla latte blonde: “It’s one of this season’s most requested shades because it perfectly balances warmth and sophistication. With golden highlights over a beige base, it refreshes the complexion and rejuvenates the face.” She adds: “It’s ideal for anyone who wants to illuminate their hair without going for tones that feel too cool or artificial.”

This subtle mix of mahogany and red is another flattering choice, according to Glana Bachir: “The key is to choose a shade that sits between red and mahogany, never too intense. Warm colors bring out the best in the skin and enhance facial features.”

Still, experts warn that red tones require extra care. Specialists at Madrid’s Blor Dry Bar explain: “Red shades tend to fade and turn brassy over time. Nourishing ingredients such as almond oil help reduce porosity and neutralize oxidation, restoring the richness of the color.”

They also recommend a heat protector: “Red hair is very sensitive to pollution, dust, and even tobacco smoke. Without proper care, the shine diminishes and the hair becomes dehydrated.”

Light Brown

Sometimes, the simplest option is also the most rejuvenating. Experts from Glana Salon note: “Lightening the hair one or two shades immediately makes you look a few years younger. On the other hand, going darker can accentuate expression lines and make facial features look harsher.”

Hair designer Juandiegoteo, Redken ambassador, agrees and points to the evolution of the latte brunette: “This season’s version is more of a coffee-with-milk shade enriched with vanilla undertones. Adding blonde highlights gives dimension and suits every skin tone, though it particularly flatters tanned complexions.”

His final tip: combine the look with balayage and soft waves to create a sun-kissed beach effect that enhances the movement of the hair.
