Bixie Curl: The ideal XS cut for curly hair

Curly hair has a personality of its own, forming unique shapes that stylists must respect to achieve the perfect look. Shaping curls properly enhances definition and manages volume, making the trendy bixie curl an excellent choice.

This stylish haircut, featuring a chic chin-length, is especially flattering for curly hair. Noelia Jimenez, owner of a prestigious salon in Europe, defines the bixie curl as “a hybrid between the pixie and bob, structured in layers to add softness, movement, and lightness.”

Jimenez emphasizes its versatility: “It's perfect for oval, triangular, or elongated faces. It highlights curls beautifully, framing and accentuating cheekbones and eyes. It's also effortlessly chic, ideal for anyone looking for fresh, stylish simplicity.” To maintain this look:

  • Use nourishing hair masks weekly to prevent frizz.
  • Apply lightweight mousse or curl activator and let hair air dry.
  • Refresh curls between washes with water spray and leave-in conditioner.
  • Detangle gently using fingers or a wide-tooth comb, always on damp hair.
  • Trim every 6-8 weeks to keep the shape.

The Clavicut: A classic, low-risk choice

This fresh yet timeless option is tailored for those seeking elegance without drastic change. Jimenez describes it as “a straight cut slightly above the collarbone, customizable with or without layers depending on hair texture. It’s classic, versatile, and universally flattering, perfect for those who desire a subtle transformation.”

This style complements all face shapes and adapts effortlessly to straight or wavy textures. For fine hair, the clavicut adds desirable density and volume. To keep it flawless:

  • Use a serum or styling cream to control frizz.
  • Apply sea salt spray for a natural, beachy effect.
  • Create gentle waves by loosely tying damp hair in a ponytail for 30 minutes, then releasing.
  • Always protect your hair with thermal products when using heat tools.
  • Seal ends with a lightweight oil or serum for a polished finish.

Curl Shag: Boho-chic with dynamic movement

The shag haircut, inspired by the iconic 70s style, is making a significant comeback. Its curly variant adds incredible volume at the crown and effortlessly frames the face with layered bangs, making it ideal for oval-shaped faces.

According to Paul Tudor, director at David Künzle Fuencarral salon, "Messy, layered cuts that boost volume are perfect for balancing pear-shaped faces."

He adds, “Pixie, shag, and longer bobs also flatter these face shapes. For inverted triangle faces, long, straight styles soften features and highlight cheekbones and jawlines, while layered bobs with bangs provide ideal balance.”
