Queen Rania of Jordan is a grandmother twice over! Her Majesty and King Abdullah II's elder daughter Princess Iman and her husband Jameel Alexander Thermiotis have welcomed their first child. The couple's daughter, whom they named Amina, was born on Feb. 16 at the Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II Hospital in Aqaba.

In a statement on Sunday, the Royal Hashemite Court said it "extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Princess Iman and Mr. Jameel, as well as to Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on this happy occasion."

Queen Rania celebrated the arrival of her granddaughter Amina on Instagram, sharing photos of the Jordanian royal family's newest addition. The pictures showed new mom Princess Iman cradling her baby girl, as well as pictures of the King and Queen proudly holding their newborn granddaughter. Both Rania and her son-in-law Jameel were pictured in scrubs.

"My darling Iman is now a mother. We’re grateful and overjoyed to meet Amina, our family’s newest blessing," Rania penned alongside the photos. "Congratulations Jameel and Iman – may God bless you and your precious little girl."

The royal baby's arrival came less than a month after it was revealed that Princess Iman was pregnant. On Jan. 24, Queen Rania posted a scenic snapshot of her daughter Iman showing off her baby bump in a picture with Jameel. "Two is a couple, three is a blessing ❤️," Rania captioned the photo. She also wrote (translated to English), "Both are dear to my heart, but the coming one is more precious 😉 ..... May God end well."

Princess Iman, 28, is Queen Rania and King Abdullah's second child and eldest daughter. The Princess married her husband on March 12, 2023 at Beit Al Urdun.

Her and Jameel's baby girl is Their Majesties' second grandchild. Their first granddaughter, Princess Iman, who is Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa's first child, was born last August.

Two years before becoming a grandmother, Rania spoke about her desire to be a "fun grandma." During a 2022 appearance on Good Morning America, the Queen admitted, “I used to always say my favorite title is mama, but I think that’s going to quickly change” to the “Arabic word for grandma.”

“My goal is to be like fun grandma,” Rania added. “We have a saying in Arabic that no person is dearer to us more than our children than our grandchildren. So I’m really excited to have babies in my life soon.”
