Set in a futuristic '60s, the film explores the most famous superhero family in the world, with the trailer sharing a look at their tight dynamics. It introduces the relationships between different family members, shows off their powers, and shares a look at Reed (Pascal) and Sue's (Kirby) newborn baby.

The trailer also teases the film's bad guys, who are two of the most famous characters in comic book history: Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner, and Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson. As if the world of the film isn't stressful enough, Galactus is a planet-eating alien, with the Earth serving as its next target.

The film appears to be set in an alternate version of the past

One of the most interesting parts of this iteration of the "Fantastic Four" is that it appears to be set in a different world than the rest of the MCU. This story is expected to set them up as one of the leading parts of the upcoming "Avengers" film, which introduces Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, one of the Fantastic Four's main antagonists.

"Fantastic Four: First Steps" is the determining movie of the stage of the MCU, with franchise producer Kevin Feige sharing just how important these characters are for their universe of characters. “I think that there are no four characters that are more important for the history of Marvel,” he said in an interview with Empire. "They are Marvel’s First Family, and I really wanted to do them justice.”

He also confirmed that the film will have a classic superhero approach, similar to the golden era of comic books. This is something that Marvel has steered clear of in the past, opting for more realistic versions of their heroes.

“In another time, some might consider the notion of somebody with a big, angular helmet walking through a city goofy,” said Feige. “I consider it awesome.”
