Bad Bunny has lined up his next major acting project. The Puerto Rican superstar has a role in one of the most anticipated movies coming out this year. "Caught Stealing" is the next Darren Aronofsky film, starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, and follows a guy in late '90s New York who's trying to prove himself to his girlfriend, only to get accused of stealing $4 million from the mob.
Bad Bunny plays one of the thugs who are closing in on Butler's lead character. His name is Colorado, and he's described as the "trigger-happy member of a Puerto Rican gang."
“He’s, like, the sweetest guy in the world. My casting director Mary Vernieu was, like, ‘Benito’s interested in acting,’ and we ended up talking,” said Aronofsky to Vanity Fair. “There was a character that he fit really well and he was great. He was so down-to-earth, and he was so one of us, and so part of the team.”
While Bad Bunny's acting work fit the role perfectly, his level of stardom proved to be challenging when shooting on location in New York.
“We were constantly terrified that the neighborhood would be overthrown as soon as they found out that Benito was there,” said Aronofsky. “He was also a good sport. He actually would come to set and then just camp out there, knowing he was not going to be able to get back to his trailer or anywhere.”
“It was constantly like: ‘Hide the Benito.’”
More details about 'Caught Stealing'
"Caught Stealing" marks Aronofsky's first film since 2022's "The Whale," which ended up taking the Academy Award for best actor (Brendan Fraser) and best achievement in makeup and hairstyling. Aronofsky, who's known for his intense films that explore dark subjects and characters, revealed he wanted to do something fun for his next project.
“I was really upset that I couldn’t figure out what was next. And I kind of had this urge to do something fun,” he said.
"Caught Stealing" premieres in theaters on August 29th.
