Zoe Saldaña is booked and busy. The actress is fresh off of her first Oscar win and has many projects in development, including a new season of her hit TV show, "Special Ops: Lioness."

The Paramount+ series, developed by "Yellowstone" mastermind Taylor Sheridan, follows a special unit of undercover female CIA operatives as they take on various dangerous missions. Here's all we know about the much-discussed third season of the series:

"Lioness" has been a hit and is just one of the many shows that Sheridan is currently juggling. Despite the high viewership and the talented cast it employs, which includes Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman, there has been no word yet on a third season. Still, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Saldaña revealed that she's signed up for at least three seasons, so it's very likely that the series will return with her attached to the project.

When is the new series coming out?

If a third season of "Lioness" were to be approved, the series is likely to come out at the start of next year. The series' first season debuted in July 2023, with the second season coming out the following October.

"Lioness" is inspired by the real-life story of "Team Lioness," a US military strategy employed by the CIA in locations like Iraq and Afghanistan to respect local customs and interact with the female population more directly.

The series follows Saldaña as Joe, one of the leaders of the program in charge of the undercover agents. Season two dealt with all manner of plots involving various countries and foreign threats, including Mexican drug cartels, the abduction of U.S. Congress members and a Chinese invasion to Taiwan.

Will the rest of the cast return?

While Saldaña has a contract for three seasons, it's unknown if actors like Kidman and Freeman have similar contracts. Genesis Rodriguez, one of the series' stars, recently revealed that she was joining the new season of "The Night Agent," so there might be some scheduling issues for the series to work through.

We'll have to wait and see when an announcement is made regarding the new season.
