Christopher Nolan has shared news of his new project. The prolific and beloved filmmaker will be sharing his own take on "The Odyssey," the ancient Greek poem accredited to Homer following Odysseus' journey home following the Trojan war.

The film has shared news of its cast, which includes some of the most exciting actors working today, including Tom Holland and Zendaya, in their fourth project together, Anne Hathaway,  Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Matt Damon.

None of the cast has shared their thoughts on "The Odyssey" yet, with Holland revealing recently that he still knew nothing of the film.  “To be perfectly honest, I don’t really know what it’s about,” he said.

“I’m super excited, but it’s been pretty quiet about the project. I met with [Nolan] and it was awesome. He kind of loosely pitched what it is, and I’m sure when he’s ready he’ll announce what it’s about”

Universal Studios will be working with Nolan on The Odyssey. "Christopher Nolan's next film 'The Odyssey' is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology," shared the studio in a post.

"The film brings Homer's foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026."

Nolan's previous film was "Oppenheimer," an incredible blockbuster and critically acclaimed success. "The Odyssey" marks another period piece for him, yet a tonally different one, exploring gods, goddesses, monsters, and more.

Nolan's history with Greek myths

While Nolan has never explored Greek myths and stories, he appears to have had an interest in the topic for decades. According to Wolfgang Petersen, the director of "Troy" starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana, Nolan was one of the directors being considered for the role.

"The Odyssey" remains a relatively unexplored topic in filmmaking, explored in films like "Ulysses," released in 1954, and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" released in 2000.
