Joe Jonas is, after all, only human — which might explain why he didn’t hold back when someone took a jab at the Camp Rock 3 teaser.
After Disney dropped the first look at the film, a social media user reposted the clip and snarked, “Genuine question are the jonas brothers in serious debt or something.”
Joe, who returns for the third installment alongside Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas, shut the comment down with a witty nod to the franchise, replying, “God forbid connect 3 go back to where connect 3 connected.”
On Dec. 4, Disney treated fans to a first glimpse of Connect 3, revisiting the place where their story began. In the teaser, Shane Gray (Joe), Nate (Nick) and Jason (Kevin) walk toward the empty lakeside at Camp Rock as “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” plays softly.
“We’re back,” Shane says. “Exactly where we’re supposed to be.”
Jason then throws in a classic reference to his character’s old camp wish, joking, “Still no birdhouse.”
Back in September, Disney revealed new information about the long-awaited third film—executive produced by former Camp Rock lead, Demi Lovato. The story centers on a fresh group of young campers, played by Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, and Lumi Pollack, while also bringing back a familiar face: Maria Canals-Barrera, who returns as Connie Torres, now running the camp.
“The story picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing,” a press release stated. “As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.”
For the “Sucker” trio—currently touring in honor of 20 years as the Jonas Brothers—stepping back onto the Camp Rock set stirred up strong emotions.
“I was flooded with emotion again,” Joe told People in an interview published Dec. 3. “I was like, ‘Oh man. I didn’t expect to be hit like this.’”
But working on the movie also led the brothers to a surprising realization about Connect 3.
“We didn’t know and still don’t,” Nick admitted, “if Connect 3 are brothers or not.”
Despite the mystery, Nick feels it just adds to the fun.
“It’s brilliant,” he said. “I think it’s hilarious. The lore is great. It’s a little confusing but it’s great. I’m really proud of this chapter of our life and being able to be part of a Disney franchise. We’re honored to get to pass the torch on to a whole new gang of campers.”
