Kim Kardashian failed the bar exam, which comes after years of studying the law in her pursuit to become a lawyer.
The reality star shared with fans on Saturday that she didn’t pass the California State Bar Exam.
“Well… I’m not a lawyer yet,” she admitted in an Instagram Story, adding with humor, “I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.”
Kim went on to reaffirm her commitment to her legal studies, writing, “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”
She also expressed gratitude to her supporters, saying, “Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way so far. Falling short isn’t a failure — It’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivates me even more. Let’s Go!!!!!”
The results were released privately to applicants on Friday evening by the State Bar of California.
Kim first revealed her decision to pursue law in a 2019 Vogue interview, explaining that she was inspired by her work helping free Alice Marie Johnson, a woman serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. “Seeing a really good result” from that case, she said, made her want to continue advocating for criminal justice reform.
Following in the footsteps of her late father, attorney Robert Kardashian, she’s been candid about the ups and downs of her path to becoming a lawyer.
The Kardashians star has previously spoken about her struggles with the First-Year Law Students’ Examination — known as the “baby bar” — which she failed three times before passing.
In December 2021, she joyfully announced her victory. “OMFGGGG I PASSED THE BABY BAR EXAM!!!!” she wrote on Instagram at the time.
“Looking in the mirror, I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection,” she continued. “This wasn’t easy or handed to me. I failed this exam 3 times in 2 years, but I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!!”
She also recalled having to skip one test attempt after coming down with COVID-19. “I did have COVID on the 3rd try w a 104 fever but I’m not making excuses,” she wrote. “I was told by top lawyers that this was a close to impossible journey and harder than the traditional law school route,” she added. “But it was my only option and it feels soooo good to be here and on my way to achieving my goals.”
