Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s rumored wedding plans have reportedly been scrapped, as new claims suggest their relationship has turned “toxic.”
The couple, who haven’t been photographed together in several months, are said to be struggling to keep their personal drama from affecting their careers. According to Daily Mail, multiple insiders have confirmed that the pop star and the SpongeBob SquarePants actor have called off their plans to marry.
Grande and Slater first went public with their whirlwind romance in July 2023, often appearing at events side by side. The “Dangerous Woman” singer frequently brought him to award shows and red carpet appearances, and occasionally shared glimpses of their relationship on Instagram.
At one point, the pair reportedly discussed marriage, with sources claiming they had been considering tying the knot as soon as this year. But that no longer appears to be the case. The last time they were seen together was in April, when Slater accompanied Grande to a Little Shop of Horrors preview in support of her Victorious co-star Liz Gillies — also marking his final appearance on her Instagram feed.
"At one time, they discussed marriage, but that is no longer on the table. They fell head over heels in love when they first hooked up. But those days are over," a source explained.
Their absence from each other’s public lives has fueled rumors of strain. Slater notably skipped the MTV VMAs last month, where Grande took home three trophies. While he posted a video of her acceptance speech for Best Pop, fans noticed he didn’t add any congratulatory caption.
"Ariana and Ethan have been on and off for most of this year," another insider told the outlet. "He chose not to attend the MTV VMAs with her because they'd had an argument just days before."
"But they made up soon after. They've both been running hot and cold with each other," the source added.
With Grande focused on promoting Wicked 2, her attention appears to have shifted toward work — and insiders suggest that dynamic isn’t likely to change even once her schedule eases.
"What they have going is more than a little toxic, but they're keeping it together for now," a source shared.
"At least until after Wicked: For Good opens. After that, it's doubtful they'll stay together. The relationship is unhealthy for both," the insider concluded.
