Marcello Hernandez is aware that a lot is changing on SNL. The breakout comedian was one of the guests at the US Open, attending the quarterfinals match between Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz.
In an exclusive moment with HOLA!, Hernandez teased the new season of the comedy series and his experiences with sports.
Hernandez shared some of what he's been doing with the SNL writers and cast members, as the series prepares to launch a new season this October 4th. When asked how he's preparing for the new season, he said, "Writing and having a lot of chats with the writers. It's gonna be a good one, I think."
He also addressed the many changes that the show is going through, with seasoned series veterans leaving the series while other favorites have also been let go and are pursuing other jobs. "There's been a lot of changes," he said. "Let's see what happens."
Earlier this week, SNL announced that five new writers and performers would be joining its ranks: Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska.
Departing cast members include Heidi Gardner, who'd been on the show for eight seasons, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim.
Hernandez's own sports experiences
Hernandez also opened up about his love of sports, including his past as a soccer player.
"I was very bad at playing tennis because I was a soccer player," he said. Before becoming a comedian and one of the breakout stars of SNL, Hernandez wanted to play soccer professionally.
"I was a soccer player my whole life, and then my drama teacher in high school told me that I should be in drama, and then my mom told me that I should try it, and I never wanted to, I just wanted to play soccer," he said, in a previous interview with HOLA!
At the US Open, Hernandez shared that he was going to have a good time no matter who won. "I'm impressed by everything because I'm very bad," he said. You can check out more of his interview below.
