Javier “Chicharito” Hernández is once again making headlines - and not for anything happening on the soccer field. In the middle of a swirling controversy over comments that got him officially sanctioned for violating gender equity policies, the Mexican striker revealed in a recent video that he is, in fact, off the market.
“So, you thought that because of the way I think, I wouldn’t have a partner. But you start to realize there is a woman who can put up with Chicharito. Interesting!” he said, speaking straight to the camera from his living room before panning over to show a bouquet of red roses, which he seemed to be saving for his girlfriend.
It’s the second time in recent weeks he’s dropped hints about his love life. In another vlog-style clip showing his day-to-day, Hernández casually mentioned he was waiting for his partner to get ready - and that she was taking her time. Later in the same video, filmed at a restaurant, he joked, “Here you can see who the romantic one in the relationship is, even though she left me hanging without a kiss,” suggesting the mystery woman was also behind the camera.
Despite clearly wanting the world to know his heart has an owner, Chicharito hasn’t revealed her identity - leaving fans wildly curious about who has captured his attention.
Hernández’s romantic history
The soccer player's love life has been as headline-grabbing as his career. He most recently dated influencer Nicole McPherson, but the relationship fizzled and they stopped posting photos together. Before that came his highly publicized romance with Australian model Sarah Kohan, whom he reportedly married in secret in 2019 and shares two children with: Noah and Nala. They split in 2020 amid cheating rumors.
The soccer star has also been linked to Spanish actress Andrea Duro, who later said she ended the relationship because she felt “abandoned” and “disappointed” by his behavior.
Spanish journalist Lucía Villalón, to whom he was once engaged, claimed she discovered his infidelity during a period when she was hospitalized. “He barely made the effort to come see me. At that moment, I expected more and felt very alone… he failed me, he left me abandoned in the hospital,” Villalón told ¡HOLA!.
Another Spaniard, Lucía Villalón, experienced a similar situation and even got engaged to her. Javier's behavior left much to be desired for Lucía, who, in addition to finding out about his infidelity, felt disappointed when she needed him most. After the engagement, her health was delicate, and her fiancé only visited her briefly in the hospital before deciding to go on vacation. "He was barely interested in coming to see me. After that, Chicharito was spotted in Paris with actress Camila Sodi, though the romance was short-lived. Earlier in his life, he was in a nine-year relationship with Leticia Sahagún, which ended when he signed with Manchester United, and the long distance became too much to handle.
