Lizzo is cutting straight through the chatter about her recent weight loss. The 37-year-old star got real this week on the "Just Trish" podcast (June 19), opening up about how she's been navigating her wellness journey and making it clear that it didn't involve Ozempic or any of the other popular GLP-1 meds that so many celebs are using these days to curb appetite.

"I've tried everything," Lizzo said candidly. "It's just the science for me, calories in versus calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food. It makes you feel full. If you can just do that on your own, mind over matter, it's the same."

Why ditching fake meats helped her level up

When host Trisha Paytas asked Lizzo how she's stayed consistent since kicking things off in 2023, Lizzo didn't hesitate to say it all started with rethinking her diet. "What did it for me was — actually it was not being vegan," she revealed. "When I was vegan, I was eating a lot of fake meats, bread, rice — I was taking in 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day just trying to stay full."

Once she pivoted to eating whole foods, such as beef, chicken, and fish, she noticed a major difference. "I was fuller without expanding my stomach with stuff that wasn't really filling me up."

Back in April, Lizzo shared that she had lowered her body mass index by 10.5 points and reduced her body fat by 16%.

Her go-to breakfast swap (and why it works)

Another small but powerful change was ditching those sugar-bomb breakfasts. "I do something sweet—it's gotta be with some sort of carb. I'll have almond butter and toast," Lizzo shared. But she quickly reminds everyone: "Everyone's body is different. You've gotta find what works for you. What works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out."

Of course, it wasn't just about food. Lizzo spoke about how this journey has been just as much mental as physical. "I loved to distract myself — with people, food, drinking, problems I'd create," she admitted. "I stopped doing that. I just focused on me."

That shift in mindset has also evolved how she thinks about her body. In a March interview with The New York Times, she said she's moved from "body positivity" to more of a "body neutrality" vibe. "I'm not going to lie and say I love my body every day," Lizzo shared. "The way you feel about your body changes every single day. Some days I adore my body, and others, I don't feel completely positive."

At the end of the day, Lizzo is reminding us all that wellness journeys aren't about following trends or quick fixes; they're about tuning into what really works for you.

Her honest, refreshingly realistic approach is cutting through the noise in an industry often obsessed with hacks and hype. And if her progress is any indication, slow and steady (with a whole lot of self-love and self-awareness) wins every time.
