Do you know how sometimes the internet can get way too harsh? That's precisely what happened when Selena Gomez turned heads at the 2025 SAG Awards. Fans noticed she looked slimmer this year, and before you know it, trolls were busy speculating about weight loss aids. But instead of staying silent, Taylor Lautner stepped in with a message that felt like a warm hug to anyone tired of the negativity.

Taylor, 33, re-shared a post on his Instagram Stories that featured side-by-side photos of Selena from this year's and last year's events. The post was packed with not-so-nice comments critiquing her appearance. In true friendly fashion, Taylor hit back with some solid advice.

He wrote, "It's a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn't make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters. And it sure isn't the shape, color or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out ...and to be a little bit nicer."

Seeing someone use their platform to remind everyone that beauty isn't just skin deep is refreshing. Selena, 32, has always been open about her struggles with body image, especially after sharing how her lupus medication and an intestinal illness called SIBO have affected her weight over time. She's been candid about the impact of body shaming and has come a long way from the days when she'd cry over harsh comments. Now, she's embracing her journey and proudly owns who she is.

Selena Gomez's ‘conversations’ surrounding mental health and self-esteem

Selena Gomez founded Rare Beauty in September 2020, not knowing people would positively react. By 2022, she accomplished a lot. While the brand’s portfolio is constantly growing, the singer, actress, and businesswoman think what makes the brand special is the “conversations” Rare Beauty was able to spark surrounding mental health and self-esteem.

“What I’m most proud of is the conversation that we’ve created in the beauty space,” Gomez told People. “I feel like we were challenging the norms, and I really wanted to create a brand that was for everyone.” Although the brand is inclusive, Selena had her doubts. “I thought that wasn’t going to sell,” she admits, revealing that Rare Beauty products “are not super over the top.“

“What I love about my products is that you really don’t need a necessary order,” Gomez shares. “You can always add, and you could always take away. … Whether I want to do a full face or if I just want to keep it natural.”

Rare Beauty also founded the Rare Impact Fund, a program to provide access to mental health services. “I’m noticing other brands getting on board with mental health, too, and I’m really, really excited about that. If anything, that’s the most important part of my brand,” she said.

The Rare Impact Fund is expected to raise $100 million over the next ten years to expand access to mental health services and education for young people worldwide. The website says they will “collaborate with a network of grantees, donors, and community to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and provide young people with access to the resources they need to support their mental health.”

Since love starts at home, 1% of all Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez sales are donated to the Rare Impact Fund.
