Zoe Saldaña may be an Oscar winner this weekend. The actress has received her first nomination for her work in "Emilia Perez" and has been one of the biggest winners this awards season, taking some of the most notorious acting recognitions over the past couple of months.

According to an awards season tradition, it would be very atypical for Saldaña to lose the Oscar this Sunday.

Saldaña's win at the SAG Awards increases her odds of winning the Oscars significantly

Last Sunday, Saldaña won the Screen Actors Guild Award, a moment that pinpointed her as the clear favorite for the Oscars race. Statistics show that actresses who win the SAG Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role are likely to win the Oscar that same year.

This tradition dates back to 2018 with actresses like Laura Dern, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph winning the Oscar shortly after.

The last actress to break this statistic was Emily Blunt, who won the SAG Award in 2018 for her work in "A Quiet Place." Her win that year was atypical considering that she wasn't nominated for the Oscars for her work.

This awards season has been filled with success for Zoe

Before her SAG Win, Saldaña had collected some of the major wins in this awards race, including the BAFTA, the Golden Globe, and the Critics Choice Award.

As she took the stage this weekend, Saldaña thanked her community of actors for “protecting her”, encouraging them to pursue stories that “live within the spectrum of artistic freedom.”

She dedicated her BAFTA win to her trans nephew and the trans community overall.  She said she was “dedicating all of these awards and the film Emilia Pérez to my nephew, Eli. He is the reason—they are the reason—I signed up to do this film in the first place. So as the proud aunt of a trans life, I will always stand with my community of trans people.”
