After what many have described as “the summer of her life,” which began right after graduating from the University of Amsterdam, Princess Amalia of the Netherlands has returned to official duties, opening a new chapter in her preparation to one day become queen.
To kick off the political season, while also beginning a new degree program in Dutch Law, the daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima was received by Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema.
Together with the city council, the two discussed updates on the business, cultural, social, and sports sectors of the capital.
Wearing a sharp “working girl” look, the crown princess officially resumed her public agenda one week after her parents, following a summer in which the royal family spent several weeks at their luxurious villa in Kranidi, Greece, overlooking the Aegean Sea.
Those holidays began just after Amalia graduated in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) and after the NATO leaders’ reception held at Huis ten Bosch Palace on June 24. That high-level diplomatic event also marked her first return to the spotlight following an equestrian accident a few weeks earlier.
Now begins a different phase for the heir, as her official presence grows steadily. At the same time, her sisters follow other paths: Princess Alexia continues her university studies in the United Kingdom, while the youngest, Princess Ariane, has embarked on a gap year.
Just last week, Ariane kicked it off by diving into one of Amsterdam’s canals for a charitable cause, recreating a stunt her mother once did back in 2012.
