Renata Zarazúa is making history. The Mexican actress played her first match at this year's US Open, delivering one of the most impressive upsets thus far. Zarazúa took out Madison Keys, the No. 6 player in the world according to ATP rankings. The win is a historic one for Mexico, marking the first time in three decades that a player from the country has defeated a seeded contender at a Grand Slam.

Zarazúa has just played the best match of her career

Following the win, Zarazúa, ranked as the No. 82 per ATP rankings, seemed shocked and thrilled with her performance, raising her hands in the air as the crowd cheered. She greeted Keys and lingered in the stadium, taking in her accomplishment.

The match was a tough one, with Zarazúa showing off her mental fortitude. Keys began the match well, taking the first set. Still, she made too many mistakes, with Zarazúa staying strong and taking the right chances and opportunities whenever she could.

Keys was one of the favorites to win this year's US Open, coming off a win in Melbourne earlier this year. Zarazúa was the clear underdog in the match.

She's scheduled to play Diane Parry within a couple of days, ranked No. 107, making for a good opportunity for her to continue making history and get even deeper in this tournament.

Zarazúa overcame her fear

“I swear, I don’t know what happened to me today! I was just so nervous before going on court," said Zarazúa to the Spanish press following her win. "I woke up, and I just had the urge to cry."

“It was almost like I was afraid of taking the court, and that’s never happened to me before. I was like, how is this possible? This is what I love to do. How can I transform this fear into something?”

This marks the first time Zarazúa has moved on to the second round of a major tournament. Most of her family is currently in New York, supporting her. She's scheduled to play again on August 28th.
