For, Necaxa Longoria is joining forces with Welcome to Wrexham producers Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds - only this time, the spotlight isn’t on a small Welsh town, but on a legendary Mexican team in Aguascalientes in need of a comeback.

At the heart of the series is Club Necaxa, one of Mexico’s oldest soccer teams and a passion project for Longoria, who is a co-owner alongside McElhenney and Reynolds. They were among a group of investors that bought over 99% of the club in January at a valuation of $30 million. According to reports, the Flamin Hot director is who convinced Reynolds to get on board.

The trio is hoping to breathe new life into “Los Rayos” (The Lightning), a team with a rich history but a rocky recent past. Once a Liga MX powerhouse, Necaxa has weathered relocations, instability, and near-obscurity. So they’re chasing wins and redemption.

For Longoria, this is personal. A proud Mexican-American and longtime advocate for Latinx representation, she’s bringing both business understanding and cultural heart to the table. She’s also no stranger to the sport. In addition to co-owning Necaxa, Longoria is part-owner of Angel City FC, which competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She's also highlighted Latinx athletes for years, often spotlighting how fútbol shapes community, identity, and resilience.

Across 10 episodes, Necaxa offers intimate access to the team’s turbulent transformation. Expect high-stakes injuries, major staff changes, passionate locker room moments, and the relentless drive of players trying to reignite a fanbase. The series captures the pulse of Aguascalientes, where fans have stood by Necaxa through every storm.

With a production team that includes Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group and Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, Necaxa blends the heartfelt storytelling of Welcome to Wrexham with the incredible energy of Liga MX. Episodes will roll out two at a time for the first three weeks, then weekly until the September 18 finale.
