Nick Jonas is trading his usual look for face paint, a black wig, and a rock star’s swagger as he prepares to portray KISS co-founder Paul Stanley in the upcoming biopic 'Shout It Out Loud.'
The McG-directed film, which tells the story of the legendary ’70s rock band known for their pyrotechnics, makeup, and extravagant stage performances, is set to start production late this year or early 2026.
Jonas is in final talks to play Stanley, who along with Gene Simmons, was a founding member and constant presence in KISS throughout their decades-long career.
The film, penned by Darren Lemke, focuses on the band’s formation and rise to fame, capturing the style that set them apart, from fire-breathing and blood-spitting to shooting rockets and dazzling crowds with their elaborate makeup and costumes.
Known for his vocals with the Jonas Brothers and as a Broadway star currently starring in 'The Last Five Years,' Jonas will take on the challenge of replicating Stanley’s signature “jet-engine” singing style. Deadline confirms he’ll be performing his own vocals in the film, dedicating time to perfect the iconic sound.
The singer brings an impressive musical and acting resume to the role. Beyond his pop fame with the Jonas Brothers, he’s starred in critically acclaimed projects like 'Goat' and the MMA drama 'Kingdom,' proving his range. His theater background includes leading roles in 'Les Misérables,' 'Hairspray,' and 'Jersey Boys Live.'
'Shout It Out Loud' has been years in the making, with Stanley, Simmons, and longtime producers like Mark Canton and Doc McGhee shaping the project alongside Universal Music Publishing Group and Polygram Entertainment.
Casting for Gene Simmons remains underway, while Jonas prepares to step into the legendary “Starchild” makeup and embody one of rock’s most enduring frontmen.
It's unclear how much of Stanley's challenges will be explored in the movie, as the singer previously talked about being deaf in one ear and being self-conscious about his appearance before music became his sanctuary and path to stardom.
