It's happening! Pixar is officially working on "Coco 2," and we're already warming up our vocal cords to sing along. The news came straight from Disney's top guy, Bob Iger, who confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel is in early development. And while we'll have to wait until 2029 for its release, fans of the original Coco know it'll be worth every second.

"While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure, and we can't wait to share more soon," Iger said.

Coco Was a Cultural Phenomenon

If you somehow missed out on "Coco" (where have you been?), let's recap. The 2018 animated masterpiece introduced us to Miguel, a 12-year-old aspiring musician born into a family that banned music for generations. His journey to the Land of the Dead led him to uncover long-buried family secrets, meet his great-great-grandfather, and bring music back to his household.

The movie wasn't just a box office hit; it was a full-on cultural moment. It won two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Remember Me." It also snagged a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, proving that Pixar had struck gold with its heartfelt story and breathtaking visuals. Not to mention, it was Pixar's first film to feature a Mexican lead character, making it a groundbreaking celebration of Mexican culture.

Who's Returning for 'Coco 2'?

Luckily, the dream team behind the original is back. Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, who directed and co-directed "Coco," are returning to bring the sequel to life. That means we can expect the same level of magic, stunning animation, and storytelling that made the first movie unforgettable.

While Pixar hasn't revealed any details about the plot, it's safe to assume we'll see Miguel again, hopefully with his guitar in hand and another mind-blowing adventure ahead. Will we revisit the Land of the Dead? Will Miguel be all grown up? Will there be another song that has lived rent-free in our heads for years? There are so many questions and so much excitement.

The Wait Begins…

Yes, 2029 feels like a long way off, but Pixar is known for taking its time to craft animated perfection. And if "Coco" taught us anything, it's that patience is key—just like Miguel had to fight for his musical dreams, we'll be holding out for more updates on "Coco 2."

So, get ready to sob, sing, and celebrate Mexican culture all over again. Pixar is taking us back to the Coco-verse, and we'll be counting down the days until we can reunite with Miguel and the rest of the Rivera family!
