Bad Bunny made Grammy history, becoming the first Latino to win Album of the Year. His win took out Grammy heavyweights like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar, and made for an important milestone for Puerto Ricans and Latinos all over the globe. Among those celebrating was Ricky Martin, a fellow Puerto Rican, who shared his emotional reaction on social media.

Watching from home, Martin erupted with joy as the winner was announced. “Yes, yes, yes! Dale boricua! Oh my God, what joy!” he screamed, applauding as he watched the broadcast. It appeared Ricky was enjoying the ceremony with his youngest children, Lucía and Renn. As he celebrated Bad Bunny’s win, a small voice could be heard adorably asking, “Where is that? Where is that?”

Ricky Martin is no stranger to the Grammys himself. He has taken home the award for Best Latin Pop Album twice: first in 1999 for "Vuelve," and again in 2016 for "A Quien Quiera Escuchar."

Beyond sharing Puerto Rican roots and global stardom, Ricky Martin and Bad Bunny have crossed paths on some of music’s biggest stages. In 2019, they performed together alongside Residente at the Latin Grammy Awards, delivering the powerful anthem “Cántalo” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

In 2023, Martin presented Bad Bunny with an honor at the GLAAD Media Awards, a recognition awarded to him for using his platform to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. At the time, Martin shared a message on social media praising the artist for his work in amplifying queer Latin voices.

“Last night we showed our love and appreciation for Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, the pride of Puerto Rico, also known as Bad Bunny. I am in awe of him as an artist and as an ally to the LGBTQ community,” Martin wrote.

Reflecting on his own journey, he wrote: “When I came out in 2010, I thought it might end my career. But it was worth the risk, because I needed to live in peace and wholeness. Today, a generation of queer Latinos is telling the world: this is who we are, and we’re here to stay. And Bad Bunny is here to amplify their voices.”

In a 2025 interview, Martin also praised Bad Bunny’s trajectory and voiced his full support ahead of the artist’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance, which has sparked some controversy in different parts of the internet.

“I think Bad Bunny is doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing: an incredible job,” Martin said in an interview with TV Azteca’s Ventaneando.

“Of course, I’ll always be here for him if he wants to talk. I think he’s surrounded by an amazing group of professionals and is making incredible decisions," he said.
