Bradley Cooper has revealed that his mom, Gloria Campano, is hooked on Turkish soap operas and other dramas. He says her TV taste has “evolved,” and she’s now so devoted to her latest viewing obsession that she’ll watch for hours.
The 51-year-old actor said Gloria has watched the Turkish rom-com Erkenci Kuş (also known as Early Bird) “four or five times” and adores actor Can Yaman, as well as other Turkish dramas. Appearing on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Bradley said, “She loves Turkish soap operas. She watches everything. She graduated from Hallmark [Channel] into Turkish soap operas.”
Bradley then revealed that Gloria has “evolved even further” into watching story content that uses artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images, which she will view for “hours.” The A Star is Born actor, who has a daughter, Lea, eight, with his 39-year-old ex-girlfriend, model Irina Shayk, whom he broke up with in June 2019 after four years together explained, “She just watches the screens where there are two people, AI images, and it’s just a person telling a story."
He continued, "And I’ll often come down making breakfast because when she stays with me in New York, she has a room down there, and I’ll be making my daughter breakfast, and I could hear it. Or I’ll go to the bathroom, which is right next to her. And I was like, ‘Wow, these guys, these voices.’ I mean, the guy’s carrying it all. It’s just an image. And she’ll watch it for hours.”
He added that he gets pulled into the plot even when he’s not trying to, saying: “And I’m like, ‘What’s going to happen? Is the firm going to hire him? Did she see the note?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s really an art form. Turkish.”
Bradley, who has been dating model Gigi Hadid since October 2023, first discovered Gloria’s love for Turkish soap operas when he walked into a room and heard dramatic moments. He recalled: “I was like, ‘Oh, no, what happened?’ Because I’m hearing [dramatic noises]. And I walk in, and I’m like, ‘Mom, what are you watching?’”
Cooper then revealed the series as Erkenci Kuş - also known as Early Bird -, and he shared that Gloria thinks its star Can Yaman (Can Divit) is the “best actor in the world.” Gloria’s early routine also involved reading English subtitles while watching the Turkish-language programs, and Bradley added, “She did this for a good like eight years, all through COVID.”
According to IMDb, the synopsis for Erkenci Kuş, which first came out in June 2018, reads: “Famous photographer Can Divit returns to Istanbul to save his family’s advertising agency from ruin. The only person he trusts there is Sanem [Demet Ozdemir], a young aspiring writer. She is not convinced of his honesty, but soon falls for his charm.” Bradley then lauded Can and Demet for their “great” performances in the show.
