Speed stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves reunited backstage at Broadway’s Waiting for Godot the week before Christmas, delighting 1990s fans who still remember their iconic on-screen chemistry.
The longtime friends, who first teamed up in 1994’s Speed, proved some connections never fade. Bullock, 61, stopped by the Hudson Theatre in New York City to support Reeves, 61, during the revival’s strictly limited engagement.
The Broadway show's instagram posted a set of photos which showed Bullock smiling alongside Reeves and fellow cast member Alex Winter. The set of photos also included other guests such as Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid who went on a date to the show, and reknown actor Robert Downey Jr. who came to support Reeves. Sandra was also seen posing with Brandon J. Dirden and Michael Patrick Thornton.
Regarding the reunion, a source told PEOPLE, “She was incredibly sweet and kind to everyone she met. And watching her with Keanu, it felt like no time had passed at all.”
Speed starred Bullock as Annie Porter, a brave and quick-thinking passenger who teams up with Reeves’ character, LAPD officer Jack Traven, to stop a bus rigged with explosives. The film, which was a box-office hit, grossing over $350 million worldwide, cemented both actors as leading Hollywood stars. Its high-speed chases and witty banter earned it a lasting place in 1990s pop culture.
Bullock reprised her role in 1997’s Speed 2: Cruise Control, but without Reeves, the sequel failed to capture the same magic. The follow-up was widely panned by critics and grossed just $164 million worldwide, far below the original's success. Over the decades, the duo has remained close friends, making Saturday’s reunion a nostalgic nod to one of their most iconic roles.
The pair previously celebrated Speed’s 30th anniversary at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles last October alongside director Jan de Bont. Joking about the film’s plot, Reeves said, “We knew we were doing something wacky.” Bullock added, “I was behind the wheel of a projectile, so I was just happy to be alive at the end of the day.”
Bullock and Reeves are set to work together again on screen in an upcoming Amazon MGM romantic thriller, marking their first film together since 2006’s The Lake House. We can't wait to find out more!
